Chona Borromeo’s Kingdom in Me: a Life of Love, Worship and Service
Music has always been a part of Chona Borromeo’s life. She has been singing for weddings and has been part of a church choir since the age of nine. It is a gift that she has carried and nurtured through the years. Fame however, has never been a part of her agenda. What her music and her life is that of love, worship and service, making it undeniable how deep and indelible her influence has been the lives of people she has come to call peers and most especially, family and friends.
For many years, Chona had her humble beginnings on the stages of high-star hotels and prestigious establishments in Manila. A member of the FILSCAP since 2004, Chona is an accomplished songwriter and composer. Her song Narito Lang Ako won the Highly Commended Song Award in the 2004 ABS-CBN Himig Handog Songwriting Competition and was included in Vina Morales’ album Mamahalin Ka Nya. In 2006, she penned the powerful track, Simulan Natin, making the finals and thus being included in the Anti-Corruption Songwriting Competition and Album, a collaborative project of the Ombudsman and the British Embassy.
2004 proved to be another pivotal year as Chona started to volunteer in Victory’s worship team. With God’s gift of music as a natural language for her, she served to communicate the love, power and majesty of Jesus to congregants. Known fondly as “ate Chona” she has become a mentor to fellow volunteers. Not only does she share her effective and honed musical know-how, she freely shares her life journey to friends and spiritual family, from being a free-spirited young adult to her current struggles and victories as a wife and mother, and as an all-around worshiper and child of God.
Kingdom in Me is Chona Borromeo bringing her life story to listeners – a life that has been saved and is continuously molded by the love and grace of God. Each song, on one hand, walks listeners through thoughts and emotions and encourages them to surrender burdens and to raise praises to Jesus. On the other, one can simply enjoy thoughtful lyrics, and pleasant music and singing. Let Kingdom in Me be an encouragement for trying times and a soundtrack to your personal victories, and be inspired in turn, to live a life of love, worship and service.
